![]() ![]() It wasn’t ideal after such a long flight and still being in the clothes we travelled in. We happily sat down and waited but after 30 minutes we were still waiting. Upon arrival after a 9.5 hour flight from the UK, we were greeted by the check in staff and asked to wait in the lobby bar with a drink as there were a few people to check in before us. Please forgive any errors as this was copied and pasted from the notes app on my phone. We have recently returned from a two week stay at Secret St James. We are definitely thinking about seeing what their other resorts have to offer though. I have no real complaints but seeing the circumstances (it was a free trip from my wife's company) I don't see us returning to that resort. Overall we had 4 days in a tropical paradise with no kids and free flowing booze. Most were cordial enough but didn't go the extra mile because they figured it wouldn't matter. People would still tip and we would too if we felt service was exemplary. Staff was as friendly as a staff making working wage at a resort they aren't supposed to be tipped at could be. This didn't bother me particularly but it shows the overall attitude of the resort. Things looked nice and well made from a distance but close up revealed poor fit & finish. The property I would say is a 10 foot resort. It wasn't always top shelf but they had it if you asked. Most of the time i didn't even have to ask for a refill. Omelette bar and Hibachi restaurant were definitely our best meals. That was definitely the best bet to get decent quality. A suggestion to navigating these places is to find situations where the cook the food while you watch. Over the course of the weekend we found things we liked at some of the restaurants (meat pies at the snack stand, omelets, jerk chicken cart, etc) and we were fine by the time we left. I understand the fact that since there's no cash incentive that the food wouldn't be spectacular but the fact that some meals were nearly inedible is ridiculous to me. Some great dishes (calimari, home fries) but obvious things like bacon eggs and sausage were bad. Open bathroom with siting area and soft memory foam mattress. Beer in my hand less than 5 minutes on the property. I've been to some tropical resorts where things were kind of tucked away but until you step foot behind the gate of the resort it's pretty dicey. Jamaica is a third world country and there's no way of hiding it when you get out to the city. ![]() Very poor neighborhood to drive through. I have returned and am prepared to give my take on the trip. Last week I posted here about going to an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica and had some requests to review it once I returned.
